Library Evacuation

We will be experiencing a building evacuation exercise sometime this week. When you hear the fire alarm go off please grab your purses (if you carry one), and head for the nearest exit and wait for the all clear signal at the nearest primary assembly point. If you are going out the south doors of the library your primary assembly point will be the far side of building 1, 300 feet away from the library. If you are going out the north doors of the library your primary assembly point will be the north parking lot (3P) 300 feet away from the library. For all the information you could want or need on disasters and disaster planning go to FEMA. -bro

Censorship and the Library

The SFCC library, like most academic libraries, does not use filtering software. The Rhode Island ACLU has concluded libraries which use filtering software are over-blocking sites. Thank you, ACLU. Imagine, a free speech organization focusing on a core issue and producing a solid, evidence-driven report! –bro

Are you hungry? FREE FOOD!

Don't forget, every other Monday (this being one of them), the FARMERS MARKET takes place in Room 119 Bldg 19. They have plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, juice, and milk. You just never know what they will have. The supplies are seemingly endless, lettuce see if we can deplete the supplies today! The best part is it is FREE to all SFCC students. So come on down to the "Farmers Market" 10:30 - 12:00.

Those Pesky Telemarketers

In a few weeks (31 Days), cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls. You will be charged for these calls.
Call this number from your cell phone– 888-382-1222. It is the national DO NOT CALL list. It only takes a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. Or you can go to www.donotcall.gov and do it on-line. –bro

ORWELL Escapes!

Orwell apparently made a stealth move over Spring Break & plugged himself into a new outlet in the area sometimes once called the Current Periodicals Reading Lounge or the place where you read magazines. A check with Dean Fortik revealed that NO ONE knows how or why Orwell moved. It was pretty amazing trick considering he's an inanimate object and Orwell has been dead for 55 years.

Rumor has it that Orwell was helped by Sandra Anderson SFCC Wellness Guru as part of a plan to fight student obesity by requiring that all students involved in a sedentary computing activity walk at least an extra 10 paces. Good luck Sandra. jlw

Art Escapes

Artwork apparently escaped from the lawn and lodged itself upon the the walls of the upstairs library lounge. Attaching itself near the light switch, this amazing piece of work replicates a pencil sharpener and actually functions as such.

Whoever did this send Tom O'Day your student number or you won't get credit. JLW

Now open earlier, per your request!

In our Tech Fee survey last December, a number of students suggested opening before 7:30, so that folks taking early classes could stop in to print out papers or assignments. Starting this quarter, we are opening at 7:15 a.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday hours will still be 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and we will continue closing at 9:00 p.m. Monday–Thursday, and at 4:00 p.m. on Fridays. –GS

Wireless Access Available

The SFCC Library recently unveiled a free, public wireless network. Previously we only offered wireless Internet through the Library's own laptops. Now you can surf with your personal machine (assuming you have a wireless card, of course).
